Picture something rough, raw, and unfinished — not smoothed, not polished, left in its crude natural state. Most uses of 'rude' come from taking that 'unsmoothed roughness' and applying it to manners, taste, shocks, or health.

English 'rude' comes from Latin 'rudis', meaning 'rough, raw, unwrought, untilled' — the same root sense of something crude and unfinished still sits at the centre of the modern word.

rude 來自拉丁文 rudis，本義是「粗糙、生的、未加工、未開墾的」。這個「粗而未經打磨」的根義，正好就是今天各種用法的共同核心——無論是舉止還是做工，底層都是這股「沒磨過的粗」。
