    Not polite. It describes something a person says or does that goes against the usual rules of good manners, often without that person meaning any harm.

    impolite 可以想成 polite（有禮貌）前面加上 im-，把畫面翻過來：禮貌就像大家默默同意的一條線——打招呼、輪流講話、有些話不問——impolite 就是踩到線外面去了。它比 rude 溫和很多：rude 常常是故意讓人不舒服，impolite 多半是「沒注意到、不知道這樣不行」，所以中文有時候說「失禮」比「無禮」更貼近。英文最常把它掛在一句話或一個動作上（an impolite question、It's impolite to interrupt），比較少直接拿來說一個人。

Think of a quiet line that a group has agreed on — how you greet people, when you wait your turn, what you don't ask about. 'Impolite' is over that line: not an attack, just a foot on the wrong side, and often the person never noticed they did it.
