One way to hold it: something set aside and held back for a particular use. A table nobody else may take; a piece of your agreement you are keeping back rather than giving; a stretch of land marked off and kept for one group of people or for wild animals. The four uses are the same act — keeping something apart — done to different things.

可以想成把一樣東西留起來、保留給特定用途：一張別人不能坐的桌子；你同意時保留下來、沒有交出去的那一部分；一片被劃出來、留給某一群人或野生動物的土地。這四個用法其實是同一個動作——「把它留著」——只是留的東西不同。
