A reputable person, shop, or company is one people respect because they are honest or because they do good work. It is about a good name you can trust, not about being famous or rich. You look for a reputable doctor, a reputable newspaper, a reputable brand. The opposite is — a bit shady. The word is positive and a little formal; everyday talk might just say trusted or well-respected. Be careful with : a expert is someone people say is an expert; a reputable expert is one whose work has earned respect. Those two are easy to mix, and they do not mean the same thing.
