Take the two words at face value: something is bending your mind. Picture your thinking as a straight piece of wire that usually holds its shape, and then something comes along and pushes it out of line. What does the pushing is what changes between the uses. An idea can be so big or so strange that your thinking cannot stay straight around it. A drug can do it , so that what a person sees and feels bends away from the room they are in. Either way the word is not describing the thing so much as what the thing does to you.
