中產階級的
Picture the middle layer of society: not the rich with land and family money, not those paid by the hour for physical work, but people whose place comes mainly from education and trained skills — doctors, teachers, office managers.
社會分層的中間那一層：上面是靠資產與家世的階層，下面是靠出賣體力與時薪過活的階層，中間這一群人的共同點是——他們的位置主要靠教育和專業技能換來。醫生、老師、辦公室主管都在這裡。從這個「中間位置」會長出兩種用法：一種是指人本身的所在（他屬於這一層），一種是指這一層人身上常見的想法和做事方式（努力工作、重視學歷、把錢存起來）。後面那種用法常常帶著說話者的態度，未必是稱讚。
