Picture one single case standing right in front of you — one actual time something happened that you can point at and say 'here, this one.' It is not the whole pattern, just one clear occurrence that represents it.

From the word’s history

From Latin instantia, literally 'a standing near, being present,' from instare (in- + stare 'to stand'). In logic it came to mean 'a case, an example' — the case that stands present before you, ready to be pointed at.

源自拉丁文 instantia，字面是「站在近旁、就在眼前」，由 in-（在）加 stare（站）而來。後來在邏輯用法裡轉成「一個案例、一個例子」——也就是那個「站到你面前、可以直接拿來指」的具體個案，正好對上核心畫面。
