不拘形式地
One way to picture it: the same thing happens, but with the shape taken off. No fixed form to follow — no set order, no set wording, no set clothes. Just people doing it the easy, ordinary way.
同一件事照做，但「形式」被拿掉了。form 是「固定的樣子、規定的形狀」，in- 是「沒有」，所以 informally 描述的是——事情還是那件事，只是不照那個固定的樣子走。沒有既定流程、沒有既定措辭、沒有既定穿著，大家用最省力、最日常的方式進行。這個字幾乎總是在對照另一種「正式的版本」：有正式會議才有非正式碰面，有正式書信才有隨口聊天。

in- (not) + formal, from Latin forma (shape, form). The core is literally 'without the fixed shape' — every modern sense is one more place where that shape gets dropped.
in-（不、沒有）+ formal，而 formal 來自拉丁文 forma「形狀、樣式」。字面就是「不照那個固定形狀」。三個用法差別只在「被拿掉的是哪一種形狀」——是人際往來的規矩、說話寫字的樣式，還是身上穿的衣服。
