Picture a body that is strong, whole, and working as it should — not sick, full of life. That single image of 'sound and well' is the root: first a healthy body, then anything that keeps a body well, anything that looks well, and finally — by metaphor — any system (a mind, a company, a bank balance) that is in good working order.
