You can think of it as the weight that settles on someone who knows they did wrong — heavy, private, and slow to lift. The same word also names the outside version of that: the finding that they really did it. So guilt covers both what a person feels and what a court decides.

可以想成：guilt 是做錯事之後壓在心上的那塊重量——你自己知道，而且那個知道不會馬上散掉。英文用同一個字講兩邊：裡面的那份重量，和外面認定的那件事實。法庭上問的不是你難不難過，而是事情究竟是不是你做的；兩邊都叫 guilt，只是一邊在心裡，一邊在紀錄上。
