One way to picture grateful: someone did something kind, and now you are holding the wish to thank them. The feeling always points back at a person and at what they did — which is why English says grateful to somebody for something.
可以想成 grateful 是「有人對你好，你心裡那份想道謝的感覺還捧著」。這份感覺永遠指向某個人和他做的某件事——所以英文的句型是 grateful to somebody for something，一個接人、一個接事。
