Picture a line drawn around your own country: everything outside that line is 'foreign' — it comes from beyond your border, belongs somewhere else. From there the word stretches: dealings with what's outside, things that feel strange because they're not yours, and even a that got into a place it doesn't belong.

可以想成在自己的國家四周畫一條線：線外的、來自邊界另一邊、屬於別處的東西，就是「foreign」。核心畫面比較像「來自我這邊以外、不屬於這裡」。從這個畫面往外延伸：跟外面打交道、因為不熟而覺得陌生、甚至跑進不該待的地方的小異物，都是同一條線「裡」與「外」的分別。
