Extended is how something looks after it has been pulled out from where it started. A table with an extra leaf in it. A deadline pushed two weeks further down the calendar. A circle redrawn wider so more people stand inside it. An answer that keeps going after the point where a short one would have stopped. The starting shape is still there in every case; someone has taken one edge of it and carried it further out.
