You can picture someone who has taken in so much alcohol that they no longer steer themselves — speech slurred, balance gone, judgment . 'Drunk' is that state of being filled and overcome by drink; from there it stretches to anyone filled-and-overcome by a feeling, and back to the bare grammar of 'having drunk'.
