A lack of respect for someone or something, shown in what you say or do.
不尊重
A useful way to hold it: respect is treating someone as if they matter — and disrespect is the visible absence of that, shown in a tone, a word, a gesture that says 'you don't count here'.
respect 是你用言行把某個人「當一回事」——聽他說話、把他的位置放在心上。disrespect 就是這份對待被抽掉之後，別人看得見的那個空缺。它不是心裡偷偷想想而已，而是會露出來的：一個翻白眼、一句打斷、一個不叫名字的稱呼。也就是說，這個字談的往往不是你有多討厭誰，而是你的態度在別人眼裡長什麼樣子。

dis- (absence, reversal) + respect — literally 'the taking-away of respect', which is exactly how the modern word works: not hatred, but respect removed.
字是 dis- 加 respect 疊起來的。dis- 從拉丁文一路傳下來，意思是「相反、拿掉、沒有」；respect 是「看重、尊重」。所以字面上它就是「尊重被拿掉的狀態」——這也解釋了為什麼 disrespect 的力道跟 hate 不一樣：它指的不是強烈的敵意，而是那份本來該有的看重不見了。
