Describes a person, plan, or method that gets what it wants by tricks, secrets, or indirect paths instead of being honest and straightforward. A devious person is usually clever and sneaky rather than openly aggressive. There is also an older, more literal use for a path or road that winds around instead of going straight, but the dishonest-person meaning is far more common today.
