表裡不一
A way to hold it: what you see on the outside and what is actually there do not match — the surface quietly points you the wrong way.
表面給你的印象，跟底下的實情對不上。一條看起來很淺的溪，走下去才發現深及腰；一個看起來很近的山頭，走了三小時還沒到。deceptive 標記的就是這個落差本身——外表把你的判斷帶偏了。至於是誰把你帶偏的，是東西本身碰巧長那樣，還是有人刻意安排，這個字兩邊都能用。

From Latin dēcipiō "to catch, to ensnare, to deceive" — literally to take someone in, the way a trap takes an animal that only saw the bait.
字根來自拉丁文 dēcipiō，意思是「捉住、誘捕、騙」，字面上有「把人接收進來」的意味——像陷阱抓動物：動物看到的是餌，看不到的是坑。這個影像跟現代的核心很合：deceptive 的重點永遠是「你看到的那一面」與「你沒看到的那一面」之間的落差。
