Consumables are the goods that are meant to be used and then replaced: paper, , pens in an office; gloves and chemicals in a lab; food and cleaning products in a small shop’s accounts. The word is workplace and budget English more than kitchen-table English, and it is almost always plural. One item is sometimes “a ” on an inventory list; in ordinary talk people just name the thing. Same idea as , only here it is the stuff itself, not the describing word.
