Picture the act of telling someone you are glad for them, packed up as a noun. English then lets you point at three slightly different things with it: the act itself, the word you shout, and the message you send. In practice the plural does most of the work, because it is what people actually say.
可以想成：把「向別人道賀」這個動作包成一個名詞。接著英文讓你用它指三樣有點不同的東西：那個動作本身、你喊出來的那一聲、以及你寄過去的那段話。實際使用上，複數形做了大部分的工作，因為那才是人們真正說出口的形式。
