Think of a weight hidden inside a ball: it looks like it should roll straight, but it always leans and curves to one side. Biased means something is tilted one way before it even starts.

一顆裡面藏了配重的球：外表看起來很正常，但你一放手，它就自己往同一邊偏過去，怎麼滾都回不到直線。biased 講的就是這種「還沒開始就已經往某一邊倒」的狀態——不是臨時決定要偏，而是那個傾斜本來就內建在裡面。這顆偏心球既可以拿來說一個人的判斷，也可以拿來說一份東西的比重。

From bias + -ed. Bias came from the game of bowls, where a ball was made heavier on one side so that it curved instead of running straight.

biased 就是 bias 加上 -ed。bias 這個字來自草地滾球（bowls）：球會刻意做成一邊重，於是滾出去的路線必然是彎的，這種內建的偏斜就叫 bias。所以現代講人「有偏見」，用的其實還是那顆偏心球的畫面——不是路不平，是球本身就不正。
