    「became」是 become 的過去式，用在「以前慢慢變成另一個樣子」的時候。become 講的是「從一個狀態走到另一個狀態」，所以 became 後面常接一個新身分或新狀態（became a teacher 當上老師、became cold 變冷了）。它跟 was 不一樣：was 是「本來就是」，became 是「後來才變成」。

You can picture 'became' as the moment something crossed over into being a new thing — the past-tense snapshot of a change finishing in the past: she was a student, then she crossed the line and 'became' a doctor.
