    「grew」是 grow 的過去式，講已經發生過的事：人長高、植物長出來、有人種東西、數字變多、東西慢慢變成另一個樣子，全都用同一個 grew。三態是 grow-grew-grown，中間的 grew 才是過去式，have／has／had 後面要換成 grown：去年長高是 He grew a lot，長到現在是 He has grown a lot。可以想成 grew 跟 know-knew、throw-threw、blow-blew、draw-drew 是一家人，-ow 常常彎成 -ew，聲音也跟著從 /əʊ/ 變成 /uː/。

grew is not a word with a meaning of its own — it is grow put into the past. Picture the same slow increase (a plant getting taller, a child getting older, a feeling getting stronger) but seen as something that already finished: last summer the tomatoes grew fast, the crowd grew quiet.
