You can picture angry as a hot, pushing feeling rising up inside someone who feels wronged: the jaw tightens, the face flushes, heat builds and wants to come out. That inner heat is the core. From there the word lends its look to things that aren't people at all — a dark sky, a red swollen sore — because they wear the same charged, threatening, appearance that an angry person does.
