Someone who works at writing books, stories, or articles, often for a living.

You can picture a 'writer' simply as the person putting words on the page. 'Writer' is 'write' plus '-er' — the one who does the writing. From there it splits between the person who for a living and, more loosely, whoever wrote a particular thing.
可以想成：writer 就是「把字寫到紙上的那個人」。writer 是 write（寫）加上 -er——做「寫」這個動作的人。從這裡分成兩支：一支是以寫作為業的人，一支比較鬆，指「寫了某樣東西的那個人」。
