A very sad event that shocks and upsets people, because someone died in it.

You can picture tragedy as an ending that takes something away and cannot be undone: a life, a future, a person's best years. It is not just bad luck or sadness — it is loss with a shape to it, the kind that makes everyone go quiet. The same shape covers a real accident in the news and a play in which the hero walks step by step towards his own death.
可以想成一種「拿走了什麼、而且收不回來」的結局：一條人命、一個本來會有的未來、一個人最好的那些年。它不只是倒楣或難過，而是有形狀的失去——聽到的人會安靜下來的那一種。這個形狀同時罩得住新聞裡真實的意外，也罩得住舞台上那個一步步走向自己死亡的主角。
