You can picture tour as a journey that loops around and comes back: instead of going straight from A to B, you move from place to place to place, taking each one in, and end up roughly where you started. The shape is a circuit, not a straight line.

From Old French 'tour' meaning a turn or circuit, from Latin 'tornare' (to turn on a lathe) — the idea of going round in a circle.

tour 來自古法語的 tour（一圈、轉一圈），再往上接到拉丁語 tornare（在車床上旋轉）。所以「繞一圈、逐站走訪」這個核心畫面其實是字根本身就帶著的「轉一圈」。
