You can picture teach as one person handing knowledge across to another: I hold something in my head — facts, a skill, a way of seeing — and I pass it over so it ends up in yours. There's a giver, a receiver, and something that crosses the gap between them. Every other meaning is just a different thing being passed across, or a different teacher doing the passing — sometimes a person, sometimes life itself.
