Stylization is what you get when an artist deliberately makes something look simpler, neater, or more decorative than it really is in life — and everyone can see they have done it. Think of the sun on a weather app: a yellow circle with straight lines around it. No real sun looks like that. The lines are stylization. The key idea is that it is not a failure to be realistic; it is a choice not to be. A person drawing a stylized bird is not a bad artist who cannot draw birds. They are keeping the parts that say 'bird' and throwing away the rest, because a clean shape reads faster and looks better on a poster. The word covers two slightly different things, and both are normal. It can mean the process — 'the stylization of traditional patterns for modern packaging' — or the quality you can see in a finished piece: 'I like the stylization in this animation.' It is not only about drawing. Theatre uses it (actors moving in a formal, non-natural way), so does dance, so does writing. Anywhere someone shapes real life into a pattern on purpose, you can call it stylization. One small warning about the spelling. British writers often write stylisation with an s, Americans stylization with a z. Both are the same word; Taiwan textbooks usually follow the American spelling.
