Think of eyes that stop moving. Normal looking flickers around; a stare locks on one thing and stays there — surprised, angry, or just blank. It is long enough that other people notice, which is why staring at someone can feel rude.

可以想成一雙停住不動的眼睛。平常看東西，視線是會飄的、會換位置的；stare 則是鎖在一個點上不放——可能因為驚訝、生氣，也可能只是發呆什麼都沒想。它久到旁人會察覺，所以直直盯著一個人看，在英語文化裡常被當成沒禮貌。
