The plural of shelf: more than one shelf — the long flat boards fixed to a wall, or inside a or , that you put things on. It also covers flat ledges of rock shaped like shelves, especially under the sea.

「shelves」就是 shelf 的複數：一層叫 shelf，兩層以上要把字尾的 f 換成 ves，不是加 s。可以想成它跟 leaf→leaves、knife→knives、half→halves、wolf→wolves 是同一群字，都照同一個方式彎，不用一個一個背。要注意的是拼法變，聲音也跟著變——shelf 結尾是 /f/，shelves 結尾是 /vz/，最後那個是有聲音的 v 加 z。
