    bookshelf 就像 book（書）加 shelf（架子板）拼起來，所以它可以指「一層放書的板子」，也可以指「整座放書的家具」——英文兩種都叫 bookshelf，要看句子。書放在架子的平面上，所以介系詞用 on the bookshelf，不用 in。bookshelf 跟 bookcase 容易搞混：bookcase 一定是整座有框的書櫃，bookshelf 一層板子或整座都可以說。複數要寫 bookshelves（f 變 ves）。
