Seafaring means working or travelling on ships and the sea. As an adjective it sits in front of a noun: a seafaring nation, a seafaring family, a seafaring life. As a noun it names the work or the life itself: seafaring was hard. It sounds a little old or story-like, but writers still use it. Sailing is more about the act of going in a boat; seafaring is about the life and the work on the sea. It is not “seeing far”.
