One way to hold it: a track worn smooth by going over it again and again. The same steps, in the same order, every time — get up, coffee, bus, desk. Because the track is fixed, two different things follow: it is reliable (a dancer's routine, a computer routine), and it can start to feel worn (dull, always the same).
