To need something because it is necessary or important.
需要
You can hold require as 'this thing cannot go without that thing.' Something is missing, and the situation simply will not work until it is supplied. A plant requires water; a job requires skill — the word points at a gap that has to be filled before things can proceed.
可以把 require 想成「少了它就不行」。某樣東西是缺不得的，情況非得補上它才走得下去——植物 require 水、一份工作 require 某種技能。核心畫面比較像指著一個必須先填上的缺口：不是「想要」，而是「沒有就動不了」。
