  1. 1臥姿的、躺臥的（正式／醫學；臥式自行車亦同）

    Recumbent means lying down, usually on your back or your side, not sitting or standing. Doctors and scientists like this word: a recumbent patient is lying down; a recumbent statue is as if asleep. It is calm and formal. You would not tell a friend you are recumbent on the sofa; you would say lying down. People also use it for a recumbent bicycle, a bike you ride in a lying-back seat. That is the same idea: the body is reclining, not upright. The word does not say you are ill or lazy. It only says how the body is placed.
