To succumb means to stop fighting against something and let it happen - to give in. You can succumb to temptation (finally eat the cake you were avoiding), succumb to pressure (finally agree after people kept pushing you), or, in a more serious and sad use, someone can 'succumb to their injuries' or 'succumb to an illness', meaning they died from it.
