有原則的（在道德上）
Someone holds a rule they can say out loud, and then follows it even when following it is the harder road. The rule comes first and the decision comes out of it, instead of the decision being made first and a reason found afterwards.
principled 可以想成這樣一幅畫面：一個人心裡有一條說得出口的規則，而且在難走的時候還是照它走。順序是先有規則，再有決定，不是先決定了再回頭找理由。這個字的兩個用法就是同一條規則落在不同地方：落在做人上，就是是非；落在做事上，就是方法。兩邊都帶著肯定的味道，因為講的都是「這背後有道理，不是隨便決定的」。

From principle + -ed. The ending -ed on a noun often means carrying that thing, as in talented, so principled can be read as carrying a set of principles.
這個字是 principle（原則）加字尾 -ed。-ed 接在名詞後面時常有「身上帶著這樣東西」的意思，像 talented。所以 principled 可以想成「帶著一套原則在身上的」，而 principle 本身既能指做人的原則，也能指原理法則，這正好對上底下的兩個用法。
