    Used when you say which person, thing, place, or idea you think would be the best one to choose. It shows what you would like most, while the other choices are still allowed.

    「preferably」是用來指出「幾個選擇裡，哪一個你覺得最好」。它最重要的分寸是：只說偏好，不是規定——Bring a pen, preferably a blue one 的意思是「筆一定要帶，藍色的最好」，帶黑筆也過得去；真正要規定的時候英文會用 must。句子通常前半段給一個大範圍，後半段用 preferably 縮到最理想的那一個，中文的「…，最好是…」剛好是同一個節奏。可以想成 preferably 就是 prefer（偏好）穿上副詞的衣服，像在句子中間插一句「如果能挑，我會挑這個」。另外 preferably 是副詞，preferable 是形容詞（A is preferable to B），中文都會說成「比較好」，但擺的位置不一樣。

Picture someone naming what they want, then adding a small note: 'and if you can, make it this one'. Preferably marks the top of a wish list without closing the door on the rest. Come at three o'clock, preferably — the other times are still allowed, but this is the one that would suit best.
