A piglet is a young pig, still small, often pink or striped, still with its mother. It is the ordinary farm word, and also the word in children's stories, where piglets sound cute on purpose. An adult is a pig; a piglet is the baby. The word is friendly and clear, not scientific — a vet might also say a young pig or a pig, depending on age. It came into English in the 1800s and took the place of an older native word.
