Pervasive describes something that exists in every part of a place, a group, or a situation — it has spread so far that you keep meeting it. books say “existing everywhere.” Though actually, speakers often mean “very widespread,” not truly in every single spot, and they often reach for it when they do not like the thing: a pervasive problem, a pervasive smell, pervasive . You can use it for a feeling or an idea as well as for something you can smell or see. It sounds formal and a bit serious.
