If a feeling, idea, or smell pervades a place, it is present in every part of it. You cannot point to one corner and say it lives only there. Cooking smells can pervade a house; worry can pervade a class before a big test; an idea can pervade a whole town. The word is a little formal. We use it more for things that spread through the air or through people’s minds than for a person walking into a room.
