An eye that is sharp up close and loses everything further away. The page in your hands is clear; the sign across the street is a grey smudge. Nothing is wrong with the seeing itself — it simply stops at a certain distance. Every other use of myopic is that same eye pointed at something other than a street: at time, so next year is the smudge, or at the world, so everything outside your own corner is.
