You can picture a mountain as a huge mass of land rising steep and high into the sky — so big you have to look up, so big it feels hard to get over. From that one picture the word stretches two ways: to any enormous pile or amount that towers like a peak, and to anything that feels as huge and hard to conquer as a mountain in your path.
