A miscellany is a group of different things gathered together. Very often it is a book, magazine, or box of mixed pieces — essays, stories, notes, bits and bobs — that do not all share one theme. It is the noun; miscellaneous is the adjective. The word is a little and rarer than miscellaneous. You might buy a miscellany of poems; you would call the kitchen drawer miscellaneous, not “a miscellany,” unless you were being playful.
