A miscellaneous set of things or people is a mixed bag: many different items that do not really belong to one tidy group, and do not seem connected with each other. On forms and in offices it means “the leftover bits we cannot file elsewhere.” A miscellaneous drawer at home is the one with batteries, rubber bands, old keys, and a lonely . It is a grown-up, slightly dry adjective; in speech people often just say mixed or all sorts. It describes the collection — it is not itself the name of the collection (that noun is ).
