Something you take to make you better when you are sick, often a liquid you drink.

You can picture medicine as the thing you take in to get well: a of syrup or a pill that goes into a sick body to put it right. From that one concrete picture — a remedy taken to heal — the word reaches outward, first to the whole science of healing, then to anything that 'cures' a hurt, even a feeling.
