You can picture landing as the moment something that was up in the air or out on the water finally meets solid ground — wheels touching the runway, boots onto a beach. From that moment the word also stretches to name the flat place where the coming-down ends: the piece of floor a flight of arrives at, the platform a boat pulls up to.

可以想成：本來在空中、或還在水面上的東西，終於碰到地面的那一刻——飛機輪子壓上跑道、士兵的鞋踩上灘頭。這個字一邊指那個「下來、到地」的動作，一邊也順著同一個畫面轉去指「下來以後腳踩到的那塊平面」：樓梯爬完之後的那塊平地、船靠岸時走上去的那塊平台。
