    If something is instructive, you come away knowing more, or seeing something more clearly. A mistake can be instructive. A trip, a story, a failure — none of these had to be made as a lesson, but they taught you. That is the difference from instructional: instructional is designed as teaching; instructive is useful as teaching, even by accident. It is a calm, slightly formal adjective. People say “most instructive” in a polite or slightly dry way, after a talk or after something went wrong. It praises the learning you got, not the official purpose of the thing.
