Picture a detective looking at wet footprints in a hallway. Nobody said 'someone came in from the rain' — the prints did not say it either. The detective puts the pieces side by side and arrives at it. infer is that step from what you can see to what you decide is probably true.

可以想成偵探看著走廊上一排濕腳印。沒有人說過「有人從雨裡走進來」，腳印自己也沒說。偵探把手上的線索並排看一看，然後走到那個結論。infer 就是這一步：從看得到的事實，走到你判斷「應該是這樣」的地方。
