A way to hold it: hope is the small light that says "this could still get better." Hopelessly is doing or being something with that light switched off — no way back, no fixing it.
hope 是心裡那盞小燈，燈亮著就表示「還有轉圜、還可能變好」。hopelessly 就是那盞燈滅了的樣子——事情走到這裡，沒有回頭路、也修不好了。有趣的是，這個「沒救了」後來被拿去形容各種程度：迷路迷到沒救、亂到沒救、愛到沒救，語氣可以很沉重，也可以帶點誇張的自嘲。
